digital.DTHG
digital.DTHG is the new area of competence of the Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (German Theatre Technical Society): we explore the potentials of digital technologies for theatre – between analog spaces and digital worlds. In pilot projects, we develop initial approaches for theatre architecture, stage technology and stage design. The first research project Im/material Spaces – AR and VR for Theatre is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and was launched in octobre 2019 for a period of two years. The aim is to link the new technical possibilities with the specific needs of theatre: how can stage sets be conceived virtually and new digital design methods be integrated into current theatre operations? How can digital technologies increase onstage and backstage safety? How can the future renovation process of a theatre building be discussed transparently and participatively with the public through an Augmented Reality application?
