About

The XR4ALL project is a first initiative by the European Commission to strengthen the European XR/immersive technology industry and to accelerate its growth, connecting startups, companies, and investors (angels, corporates, and VCs) active in XR.

XR – often referred to as “extended reality” – includes virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and similar means of immersion. XR is poised to revolutionize the way people communicate, interact, and share information.

After years of research and development, XR technology has reached a tipping point where it becomes accessible to small businesses and consumers, thereby warranting market introduction. With over $4 billion in worldwide investments to date, the industry is set for a bright future but further financing is key for its success, especially in the Europe Union.

By 2020, in Europe, the total production value of the XR industry should reach €15-34 billion, and the number of jobs 225,000-480,000. However, the European XR scene is relatively less known, quite fragmented, and faced with strong outside competition, especially from Asia and the USA.

XR4ALL is designed to forge a competitive, sustainable XR-tech ecosystem in Europe, with the following main objectives:

  • create a pan-European (XR-tech) community,
  • build a platform for developers to share products & tools,
  • develop a research agenda,
  • award grants for innovative technology projects,
  • increase investments & tech transfers to help products reach market.

XR4ALL should prove beneficial to developers, engineers, computer scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs, businesspersons, financiers, investors, journalists, evangelists, and users.

By creating a strong and enthusiastic XR4ALL brand and community, the XR4ALL project should attract investors from Europe and beyond.

The XR4ALL project started on 1 December 2018 and has a duration of 30 months. The partners of the XR4ALL Consortium are:

  • b<>com, France
  • Europe Unlimited, Belgium
  • Fraunhofer Henrich Hertz Institute, Germany
  • Image&3D Europe (Stereopsia), Belgium
  • Lucidweb, Belgium

If you are active in XR (tech or content), we invite you to join the growing XR4ALL community and to participate in its XR tech activities.
