Joana Gouveia Alves (1982) is a researcher, architect and editor specialized in the field of architecture. She holds a PhD in Architecture from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Previously, she was a lecturer at EUAC (Coimbra) and doctoral assistant at LTH2-EPFL laboratory, coordinated by Prof. Bruno Marchand (Lausanne). Recently she engaged as Science Manager in ISTAR (ISCTE-IUL) helping to develop research projects proposals.
The ISTAR-Information Sciences and Technologies and Architecture Research Center is a ISCTE-IUL unit that has the mission to carry out applied and multidisciplinary research in the convergence of areas like Computer Science and Information Technologies, Mathematics (applied to computational problems), Architecture and Urbanism (in its digital dimensions, either conceptual, modelling, simulation or fabrication). ISTAR-IUL is concerned with the analysis, design, and construction of human–based systems, focusing, in its creation, on the design of digital living spaces, on the design and construction of information systems and software, and on complexity studies and computational modeling as understanding tools
