IBC – Virtual Fraunhofer booth & conference — Online Event

Dr. Oliver Schreer is presenting a Webinar on “Immersive and Interactive Virtual Reality Experience of History, Ernst Grube – The Legacy“, on  10 September at 4 PM.

Volumetric video is considered as a key technology for immersive interactive XR experiences. In this talk, the recent project between UFA and Fraunhofer HHI is presented, which is a VR documentary about one of the last German survivors of the Holocaust, Ernst Grube. It consists of six interviews with Ernst Grube lasting about 8-12 minutes each. The Jewish contemporary witness talks about his experience in Nazi Germany and his imprisonment in the concentration camp Theresienstadt.

The VR experience allows the user to meet Ernst Grube and the young interviewer at different places, for which a thrilling virtual environment have been built. By the end of September, the first 5 min. proof-of-concept production will be launched.

This production demonstrates how volumetric video offers the potential to preserve cultural heritage and to keep history alive.
